Display Behavior Settings

Display Behavior Settings

NotifyBubble offers several settings that control how your notifications behave when visitors interact with them. These settings help you fine tune the experience so your notifications are helpful without being annoying.

Start Open

When enabled, the notification panel opens automatically when the page loads, instead of requiring the visitor to click the bubble icon first.

  • Default: Enabled
  • Available for: Bubble type only

This is useful when you want to make sure visitors see your message right away, without relying on them to click the bubble.

Auto Open Once

This is a sub setting that appears when Start Open is enabled. When turned on, the notification will only auto open once per visitor session. After the visitor closes the panel, it won't auto open again on subsequent page loads during the same session.

  • Default: Enabled (when Start Open is on)
  • Available for: Bubble type only

This prevents the notification from repeatedly popping open as visitors navigate between pages, which can be frustrating.

Stay Hidden After Close

When enabled, closing the notification prevents it from appearing again for the rest of the visitor's browser session.

  • Default: Disabled
  • Available for: Text Box type only

This is important for Text Box notifications because they appear prominently on the page. Without this setting, the text box would reappear every time the visitor navigates to a new page, which can quickly become annoying.

When to Enable

  • Your notification is a one time announcement (visitors only need to see it once)
  • The message is time sensitive and you don't want it to keep appearing
  • You're running a promotion and have already captured the visitor's attention

When to Leave Disabled

  • You want the notification to persist across pages as a reminder
  • The notification contains ongoing information that visitors might want to reference again

Display Duration

Controls how long the notification panel stays open before automatically closing (in seconds).

  • Default: 0 (stays open indefinitely)
  • Range: 0 to any positive number

When set to a value greater than 0, the notification panel will automatically close after that many seconds. This only hides the panel — it does not dismiss the notification entirely. For Bubble type, the bubble button remains visible and clickable.

Good Values

Duration Use Case
0 Default, notification stays until visitor closes it
5 to 10 seconds Quick announcements or flash messages
15 to 30 seconds Longer messages that need reading time
60+ seconds Detailed content that visitors should have time to read fully

Tips

  • Combine Start Open with Auto Open Once for the best first impression without being repetitive
  • Use Display Duration sparingly — if your message is important enough to show, visitors should have time to read it
  • For Text Box notifications, enabling Stay Hidden After Close is generally recommended to avoid frustrating visitors
  • Test your behavior settings by visiting your store in an incognito/private browser window to simulate a fresh visitor
