Tracking Button Clicks

Tracking Button Clicks

Button clicks are one of the most important metrics in NotifyBubble because they measure the ultimate action you want visitors to take: clicking your call to action button.

What Gets Tracked

Every time a visitor clicks a CTA button inside a notification panel, NotifyBubble records:

  • Which notification the button belongs to
  • The button label text
  • The destination URL
  • The device type (desktop or mobile)

This data appears in both the Dashboard (as a stat card) and the Analytics page (in the detailed breakdown).

Button Clicks vs Regular Clicks

It's important to understand the difference:

  • Clicks (also called panel opens) — count when a visitor opens the notification panel by clicking the bubble icon
  • Button Clicks — count when a visitor clicks the specific CTA button inside the panel

Button clicks are a subset of total engagement. Not every visitor who opens the panel will click the button, so the ratio between these two numbers tells you how compelling your CTA is.

Button Clicks Breakdown

On the Analytics page, you'll find a button clicks breakdown table that shows:

  • The button label text for each notification
  • The target URL where the button links
  • The total click count for that button

This helps you understand which CTAs are most effective and which destination URLs generate the most interest.

Improving Button Click Rates

Make the Button Visible

  • Use a contrasting button color that stands out from the notification background
  • Keep the notification content short so the button is visible without scrolling

Write Compelling Labels

  • Use action verbs: "Shop", "Get", "Claim", "Discover"
  • Be specific: "Get 20% Off" performs better than "Click Here"
  • Create urgency when appropriate: "Shop Now" or "Limited Time"

Match Content to Action

The button should feel like a natural next step after reading the notification content:

  • If the notification mentions a sale, the button should say something like "Shop the Sale"
  • If the notification shares new arrivals, try "View New Arrivals"
  • If the notification offers a discount code, use "Claim Your Discount"

Test Different Approaches

Create similar notifications with different button labels and compare their button click rates over time:

  • Action focused: "Shop Now" vs "Browse Collection"
  • Benefit focused: "Save 20%" vs "View Deals"
  • Urgency focused: "Limited Time" vs "Explore"

Tips

  • A notification with high views but zero button clicks suggests the CTA needs improvement
  • Check button click performance across desktop and mobile — the experience might differ
  • If you're running multiple notifications, the button clicks breakdown helps you see which CTAs resonate best with your audience
