Understanding the Overlap Warning
When you see a warning banner on your Notifications page, it means two or more of your enabled notifications are targeting the same page type. Here's what it means and how to handle it.
What the Warning Means
NotifyBubble can only display one notification at a time on any given page. When multiple enabled notifications target the same page type (e.g., both set to "All Pages" or both set to "Product Pages"), there's a conflict.
The warning lets you know that some of your notifications won't be visible on your store because a newer one is taking priority.
How Priority Works
When there's an overlap, the most recently created notification wins. This means:
- The newest notification targeting a particular page type will be displayed
- All older notifications targeting the same page type will be hidden
- Hidden notifications are still saved and their analytics data is still tracked
Common Overlap Scenarios
Two Notifications on "All Pages"
If you have two notifications both set to "All Pages", only the newer one appears. The older one is completely hidden.
"All Pages" vs Specific Pages
A notification targeting "All Pages" overlaps with every other page target. If you have one notification on "All Pages" and another on "Homepage", the one that was created more recently will show on the homepage.
Same Specific Target
Two notifications both targeting "Product Pages" will overlap — only the newer one shows on product pages.
How to Fix Overlaps
Option 1: Change Page Targeting
Give each notification a unique page target so they don't compete:
- Notification A → Homepage
- Notification B → Product Pages
- Notification C → Collection Pages
Option 2: Disable the Old Notification
If you no longer need the older notification, disable it by toggling it off. The newer one will continue to show and the warning will disappear.
Option 3: Delete Outdated Notifications
If the older notification is completely outdated, delete it. Its analytics data will be preserved for historical reference.
When Overlaps Are Intentional
Sometimes you might intentionally have overlapping notifications. For example, you might keep an older notification saved and disabled as a backup, and only see the warning briefly while you're editing. As long as you're aware of which notification is actually showing, the overlap warning is just informational.
Tips
- Review overlaps whenever you create a new notification
- Use specific page targets instead of "All Pages" when possible
- Keep your notification list clean by deleting or disabling notifications you no longer use
